Kids Need Faith
Acknowledging we need God and knowing what is right and wrong are the only ways our kids can grow up with a mature conscience and be capable of making good decisions in life. It is God’s spirit who is the voice that whispers to us to do the right thing, that prompts us to do our best. Your spirit is the part of you that knows God and prompts you to seek Him. Our society doesn’t acknowledge this fact. We are told we must prove existence, or be able to see solid facts when in fact, science still can’t figure out what “makes” our conscience work. Our conscience is the Spirit giving us advice and we need to teach our kids how to listen to that spirit. Some parents say they aren’t going to impose their beliefs on their children, they will just let them make their own decisions when they get older. But isn’t that like saying, “I’m not going to send them to school; they can choose to learn what they want?” It doesn't make sense to let our kids drift into life without spiritual backup. It’s our job to introduce them to God, explain how He loves us and takes care of us and is always there for us. Kids that have a strong spiritual basis have strong decision making skills and know right from wrong. They know God is there for them, helping, and listening even when people aren't.
Unless we teach our kids how to believe in something greater than themselves, and in something that is eternal, it won’t matter what else you teach them. Life will be just one short ride with no anchors. But if we teach our kids that they answer to someone greater and that He is there to help us every step of our lives and that eternal life is worth working towards, then we will have given them a gift beyond measure! They will forever live on in God’s spirit and ours!
