Put Some Spirit In It
It seems like bullies and bad guys are always bigger and meaner than us nice guys. That’s just how it is. They might even have big muscles and that can look pretty scary.
But we have a secret weapon!
First, let’s talk about muscles. The bigger they are, the stronger they are. Just look at your own arms and legs. Your legs are bigger than your arms, and your leg muscles are stronger than your arm muscles. So if the bad guy or bully has bigger, stronger muscles than us, what can we do? Well, let’s talk about that secret weapon. The secret weapon that is stronger than muscle is your spirit. Your spirit is really cool – it can be small and quiet or big and loud. Remember a time when you were sad, scared or didn’t feel good, I bet your spirit felt really small. Then remember a time when you were winning a game, or having a lot of fun, and I bet your spirit felt really big. You can make your spirit small enough to fit in your pocket, or big enough to fill up a room. That’s our secret weapon!
When we are scared, we have to try really hard to make our spirit BIG, as big as the room we’re in. So big that there is no room for fear. When that bully is calling us names and saying he’s going to hit us, or when we have to do something scary, like talk in front of the class, or when somebody makes us nervous, we have to make our spirit BIG! When a bad guy or bully sees that big spirit, he may just decide to leave us alone. It’s kind of like coming up on a bear in the forest. You should not run because the bear is faster, and your fear will make him stronger. Stay put, and make yourself as BIG as you can, yell and make some noise. The bear doesn’t really want to fight, so he may just go off and leave you alone. But if you look scared and run, he’ll think you’re lunch. Bad guys and bullies can be the same way. They want to scare you and they use fear to do it. Have a BIG spirit. Leave no room for fear. Make some noise. See if you can scare the bear.
Be good, be strong & be safe.
